The Webster Technique
What is it?
The Webster Technique is a chiropractic technique that assesses, analyzes, and adjusts the spine and pelvis to allow the body and its system to re-organize, re-balance, and re-align for optimal function and health.
The founder and developer of this technique was the late Dr Larry Webster, who was also my instructor back in chiropractic school. He was a master at assessing and adjusting pregnant women, and babies. His skill was extraordinary, and after noticing a pattern in pregnant women improving from his technique, he named it ‘the Webster Technique’. He is also the founder of the International Chiropractic Pediatric Association.
Doctors of Chiropractic are the only health practitioners who are able to become certified in this technique through the ICPA. A list of practitioners worldwide can be found here.
I received my first Webster certification within a few years of graduating from chiropractic school in 1997, and I have recently renewed certification 4 years ago, and continually update and renew my qualifications and credentials according to the ICPA, which is every 2 years.
The Webster Technique is very gentle, thorough, and effective at optimizing the spine and pelvis. Many pregnant women find information about the Webster Technique because it has been associated with baby mal-positioning, especially breech babies. There have been many pregnant women who have experienced regular chiropractic adjustments from a certified Webster Technique chiropractor and have reported that their baby was able to turn and reposition themselves to a more ideal position which is head-down and to the left. The Webster Technique and the stretching and exercises from the Spinning Babies website have been incredibly successful at helping women achieve a more comfortable pregnancy and ideal baby positioning.
The Webster Technique is an effective technique to help the pregnant woman’s body release tension in her pelvis and spine, to re-balance and re-align her system, thus allowing for the best possible response in her body and her growing baby.
